The All-Inclusive for People Who Don’t Do All-Inclusive

You know who you are - keep reading.

You’ve said it. Maybe at a dinner party, maybe when someone suggested a resort vacation. The slight wince and, “I’m not really an all-inclusive person.”

Totally fair and I get it.

A lot of all-inclusive resorts are exactly what people picture. Crowded buffets, sugary drinks, wristbands, and generic food. There is also this feeling of being trapped on a property for a week that could honestly be anywhere because you never leave the resort.

But here’s the thing. What most people actually dislike is a bad all-inclusive.

When it’s done right, it can be amazing.

Ikos Aria does it right.

You Don’t Feel Trapped

The biggest surprise was how much this trip still felt like Greece.

One morning we grabbed the complimentary bikes and rode into Kefalos. Another afternoon we paddled over to the tiny island off the beach, climbed the rock wall, and rang the bell at the little church on top. Those random moments ended up being some of my favorite memories from the whole trip.

That’s what makes Ikos different. You are not trapped on the property.

Their Dine Out program encourages you to eat at local restaurants, and it’s included. The Local Discovery program gives you a complimentary car for a day or two, plus a Culture Pass with access to local museums and historical sites.

All included.

We got the full luxury resort experience and real destination travel at the same time.

The Food Lives Up to the Hype

This is usually where all inclusive resorts lose people, but not at Ikos.

My favorite meal of the trip was the chateaubriand at Seasons restaurant.  It was elegant without trying too hard.

Honestly, that describes the whole resort pretty well.

The cocktails were another surprise.  Elevated, balanced, and beautifully presented. Not sugary resort drinks with mystery liquor.  These were cocktails you’d happily order at a good bar at home.

And the pace of it all felt different too.

No rushing, no giant noisy dining rooms and no feeling like you’re being processed through dinner.

It all felt calm.

Deluxe Collection Was Worth It

We stayed in the Deluxe Collection, and I do think it’s worth it, if it fits your budget.

After a long day of travel, skipping the main check-in and immediately being handed a glass of champagne felt exactly like the energy I wanted to start vacation with.

The included spa treatments were such a nice touch. Same with the private beach dinner that comes with the Deluxe Collection.

Nothing felt over-the-top, just thoughtful luxury the entire time.

And having access to upgraded restaurants plus quieter pool and beach areas really changed the feel of the trip.

Somehow Great for Couples and Families

This one’s hard to pull off, and Ikos does it really well.

Couples looked relaxed and so did the families. Nobody seemed irritated by the other’s existence, which honestly feels rare at resorts.

The layout and seating are thoughtful enough that everyone has their own space without it feeling divided or segmented. It just works.

My One Piece of Advice

The flight to Greece is long. Upgrade it.

Premium economy on an overnight route changes the entire experience. Arriving rested means your vacation starts the second you walk in, and at a place like Ikos, you want to hit the ground running.

The Bottom Line

What stuck with me most wasn’t any one amenity or fancy detail.

It was the feeling of not having to think very hard for a week. Good food, beautiful settings, no stress, no constant planning, and no little annoyances stacking up.

Just an actually relaxing vacation.

If you’re someone who normally says you don’t do all-inclusives, this might be the one that changes your mind.

And if you’re thinking about it, let’s talk. There are several Ikos properties, and they each have a different feel. Figuring out which one fits your travel style, your budget, and who you’re traveling with is what we do.
